Abstract
This paper analyses the influence of the labour market on poverty in the Argentinean provinces for the period 1996-2018 using fixed effects, GMM and threshold model. Results show that improvements in the income distribution, increases in labour market earnings or in the share of people with high education levels, and decreases in the unemployment rate contribute to the reduction of poverty at the provincial level. Finally, we use the Hansen threshold model to capture non-linearities in a non-dynamic fixed effects model, finding that nonlinear effects of income, informality and unemployment on poverty depend on the inequality of the province.
