Abstract

Rural populations in Mexico face various challenges; one of them is related to financial inclusion, as it enhances various monetary transactions. This research aims to analyze the causality that banking correspondents have regarding the number of credit and debit card contracts and their impact on rural populations, where banking instruments are scarce. Therefore, a reduced VAR model and a Granger causality test were applied. Within the conclusions, it is highlighted that very few rural populations have banking correspondents, although they generate a positive effect since they meet the demands of the population for financial products through the use of credit and debit cards. This research, along with similar ones, agrees that financial inclusion is favored by applying the model of banking correspondents.
