Abstract

Dos siglos de evolución del sistema bancario estadounidense proveen lecciones sobre el dinero creado por los bancos, su uso como medio de pago y su fragilidad. En este artículo se resume esta historia, con foco en el importante rol que la opacidad sobre los bancos y las garantías gubernamentales parecen tener para que las economías disfruten de bancos y medios de pago eficientes y estables./ Two centuries of evolution in the American banking system offer valuable insights into the money created by banks, its role as a means of payment, and its fragility. This article encapsulates this historical journey, focusing on the significant impact that bank opacity and government guarantees appear to have on the efficiency and stability of banks and payment methods.
