Regional concentration of Foreign Direct Investment in the Central and East European region

Abstract

The globalisation concept implied that a growing share of FDI is worldwide in scope and transition countries, in particular, should attract increasing percentage of FDI. However, this did not happen in reality. We argue that there is a regional concentration of FDI which can be seen from many examples such as the example of Greek Multinational Enterprises (MNEs) that became dominant entrepreneurs in the Balkan region, the Austrians MNEs in Slovenia and Croatia, and the MNEs from the Nordic countries in the Baltic countries.
