Abstract

The mining industry has a colossal impact on the Indian economy. It directly and indirectly impacts the country's GDP, employment, revenue, society and related industries' growth prospects. After the economic super cycle, i.e., from 2002 to 2010, the whole world is suffering from economic slowdown. This sluggish phase demands improvement in productivity and sustainability across all production sectors to stay alive. This calls for identifying each attribute, which are affecting productivity and to improve upon those areas. This paper explores specifically operational attributes, which has substantial impact on productivity of open cast mines. Thirty two such attributes are identified though literature review and gap analysis. Subsequently these attributes are ranked through RIDIT analysis and colour coded using colour codification system of Homeland Security, USA. This research expects mining industries to be benefited after reviewing critically their operational attributes and work upon them for further improvement at their respective work zones.
