Abstract

Though the Government of Kenya makes huge budgetary allocations towards the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) construction projects, it is still not clear on what constitutes project success. The present work attempts to develop a framework influencing the success of CDF construction projects based on six success factors, namely project-related factor, client-related factor, consultant-related factor, contractor-related factor, supply chain-related factor and environment-related factor. This study further aims to investigate and confirm these success factors and develop a scale for determining success amongst construction projects. With data collected from 211 stakeholders involved in the construction of CDF projects in Western province, Kenya, two measurement models of project success were tested and compared using confirmatory factor analysis. Our findings suggest that both the first-order and second-order models for construction project success are reliable and valid. The study results further show that all the six factors are significantly correlated with project success.
