Abstract

Healthcare is continuously changing through the means of project work. To our knowledge, no specific project management guidelines exist for small projects in healthcare contexts, conducted by healthcare professionals, who typically lack appropriate project management knowledge and skills. This study examines successful project management practices in small projects in two Canadian hospital settings. A list of 43 project management practices deemed important by the majority of participants is proposed that could serve as basic guidelines for managing small projects in hospitals. Findings also shed light on the value of adapting principles of project management to these settings.
