Emotional intelligence and entrepreneurial intention: benchmarking initiatives

Abstract

This research evaluates the impact of emotional intelligence (EM) towards enhancing the entrepreneurial attitude (EA) and entrepreneurial intention (EI) in the higher education context from an emerging economy perspective. Based on insights from the prior studies, this research identifies certain gaps and attempts to fill the vacuum in the literature of emotional intelligence. SEM was applied to test the hypothesised model using 373 responses drawn from survey participants. The study findings show that EM positively and significantly affects EA of the post graduate students in the selected regions. Further, the association between EA and EI was also found positive and statistically significant. Moreover, EA plays a mediating role in the link between EM and EI. These research findings lend empirical support to the limited literature on emotional intelligence and entrepreneurship, especially in emerging market settings and provide cues to the policymakers to devise effective strategies and benchmark the initiatives.
