Impact of knowledge management system and organisational learning on employees' competence in banks

Abstract

Digital transformation has been widely triggered in banks process and activities, such as collaborative technologies which are used to facilitate the work process and enhance users' capabilities. However, the extant literature on these technologies is scarce, especially as regards the relationship between collaborative technologies and collective competence of work group. Additionally, existing studies have not yet sufficiently addressed the empirical perspectives of adopting collaborative technologies in the bank industry. In order to reduce this gap, this study aims to explore the influence of Groupware on collective competence through the introduction of two intermediation variables: knowledge management and organisational learning. Based on technology adoption, collective competence and organisational learning literature, we develop and test a processual model of collective competence development in Tunisia. We carried out a survey of 272 bank agents, working in Tunisian branches of foreign banks, and we analysed the collected data using structural equation modelling. The research conclusions have substantial managerial and theoretical implications.
