A service-dominant logic analysis of fair trade procurement management

Abstract

This study explores the use of fair trade procurement management (FTPM) as an approach to achieving sustainability. This paper develops a framework theoretically grounded in service-dominant logic (SDL) which is capable of helping researchers to better understand fair trade (FT) as a socio-political element of procurement management. The proposed framework models a number of key antecedents and consequences of FTPM, specifically examining the role of public policy, stakeholder pressure and corporate social responsibility in retailers' procurement of FT products as well as the role of awareness and availability of FT products in the purchasing behaviours of end-consumers. The theoretical framework provides ten novel propositions, providing rich insights and directions for future research related to FT in the procurement field.
