Transport and distribution in public primary schools in Kenya: a study evaluating cost, technology, delivery time, and inventory problems in Embu County

Abstract

Transport and distribution are essential elements of service delivery in public primary schools in Kenya. The constructs of transport and distribution determine how efficiently and effectively services are rendered in public institutions. The study provides an optimisation model that considers demand and supply, existing infrastructure, and shared resources regarding products and commodities. Developing and adopting such models is essential for developing economies like Kenya. This study focused on transport and distribution in public primary schools in Kenya. The study sampled 200 public primary schools in Embu County while adopting a semi-structured questionnaire. The study used a multivariate regression analysis model to analyse cost, technology, delivery time, and inventory problems in transport and distribution. The analysis revealed that cost (β = -0.150, p - 0.005), technology (β = 0.236, p - 0.001), delivery time (β = -0.131, p - 0.007), and inventory problems (β = 0.089, p - 0.063) significantly affected service delivery.
