Abstract

This paper presents the effect of surface roughness of blank diameter on external threading when it is manufactured by thread rolling process on Sup 9A material. Sup 9A is a spring steel which is used in manufacturing of Stabiliser Bar of automobile. The work has been carried out at M/s. NHK Springs India Pvt Ltd., Malanpur on Paraga Hydraulic Circular Dies Thread Rolling Machine using HSS die and Sup 9A work piece. The effect of surface roughness of blank diameter has been studied on dimensions of threads. The results indicate that the surface roughness affect significantly the dimensions of threads, pitch circle diameter decreases when surface roughness increases and vice versa.
