Abstract

The aim of this paper is to review the literature related to just-in-time (JIT) implementation. After going through a large number of papers related to the subject, the JIT implementation practices employed by successful manufacturing organisations have been extensively reviewed and analysed. This study also discusses the critical success factors and facilitators of JIT implementation in an organisation, and contains a comprehensive listing of publications in the field of JIT implementation. The study has reported 21 different benefits obtained by companies after a successful JIT implementation. In addition, this research reduces the list to identify the essential benefits that must be focused on. The study further indicates that management commitment, quality management, education and training are the main critical success factors in the JIT implementation, and that management, employee and knowledge are the main obstacles of JIT implementation.
