Abstract

Carriers' collaboration is achieved when two or more carriers share their requests and resources in order to reduce their routing costs and increase their total profit. In this article we present a classification of carriers' collaborative routing problems according to type of planning (centralised or decentralised) and a review of the most popular routing problems related to city logistics, i.e., multi trips vehicle routing problem (MTVRP), multi-depot vehicle routing problem (MDVRP), vehicle routing problem pickup and delivery (VRPPD) and loading constraints. Based on an existing taxonomy we review those problems in term of variants, objectives and resolution methods. The aim of this paper is to provide a comprehensive and relevant characterisation of carriers' collaboration problems in urban context.
