Rediscovering traditional knowledge: a case study of neem

Author

Listed:
  • N.G. Satish

Abstract

Knowledge in wealth creation has passed through two earlier stages and is now emerging into the third where knowledge is being applied to knowledge itself. Against this background this paper examines the potential of traditional knowledge in the development of scientifically acceptable products and processes. It analyses the patenting behaviour of neem tree products worldwide and the strategies adopted to preserve community rights for traditional knowledge through a non-patent database.
