The location of hub-seaports in the global supply chain network using a cooperative competition strategy

Abstract

The rapid growth of international trade in recent years has led to increased utilisation of mega-containerships. Since these containerships require the large container cranes that are often available on hub-seaports, the success of global supply chain operations hinges on the containership's accessibility to hub-seaports. Considering the increasing significance of hub-seaports to global supply chain operations, this paper develops a cooperative competition strategy that can help carriers and shippers determine optimal locations for hub-seaports. To verify the usefulness of the proposed strategy, we apply it to the hub-seaport location problem encountered by East Asian countries.
