Assessing solution methods to mixed multi-objectives scheduling problems

Abstract

This paper considers the scheduling problem of optimising multiple criteria (multi-objectives) at a time. The technique proposed earlier on for assessing the performance of solution methods to bicriteria problem is extended to multi-objectives scheduling problems. Unlike before, the composite objective function (COF) is designed to handle situations in which some of the criteria are to be minimised while some are to be maximised (mixed multi-objectives). The normalisation procedure proposed earlier on is also modified to yield a dimensionless (scalar) COF. Two illustrative examples were used to demonstrate the utility of the techniques being proposed for assessing the performance of solution methods to mixed multi-objectives scheduling problems.
