A scenario-based exploratory study of cognitive moral development in information ethics

Abstract

This study uses scenarios-based approach to investigate cultural impact on the student moral development in the context of information ethics. Kohlberg's cognitive moral development (CMD) model is used to assess student perception differences between US students and their counterparts from three Chinese samples (Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong). The study found significant differences in the perceptions not only between US and Chinese students, but also among the three Chinese samples. The study posits three propositions based on the findings. The study has both educational and business implications.
