Abstract

The present day Indian manufacturing scenario has been shifted to competitive manufacturing environment at full spectrum of manufacturing capabilities; only few firms are close to the international frontier. Most of the manufacturers are not able to meet out the global competence due to technological obsolescence, inferior quality and high costs. This adversely affects the ability of organisations to respond to the challenges in increasing international competition. Hence, the researcher feels that Indian manufacturers should take responsibility to bring changes and improvement by practicing well accepted manufacturing management approaches in the business environment in an integrated manner. In this paper, a comprehensive integrated manufacturing model, Integrated Manufacturing Business Excellence System (IMBES) is a bundle of global manufacturing management concepts such as total quality management, total productive maintenance, six sigma (DMAIC), agile manufacturing, sustainable manufacturing and lean manufacturing, is proposed for achieving manufacturing business excellence in the global market by overcoming these challenges.
