Abstract

A high quality engineering education is becoming increasingly important in India and worldwide due to the universal demand for quality technical personnel. This calls for revitalising the existing system of engineering educational institutions (EEIs) by adopting integrated quality management model for attaining sustainability in the academic field. Since various research studies were dealt with individual quality system strategies, the authors have developed an integrated model called integrated educational quality management system (IEQMS) which constitutes quality management practices such as ISO 9001:2008 QMS, ISO 14001:2004 EMS, occupational health and safety management systems (OHSAS 18001:2007), Six Sigma (DMAIC), TQM, knowledge management and lean thinking are embedded in one. Structural equation modelling (SEM) is employed to test the relationships between critical factors of IEQMS and engineering institutional performance using data collected from 324 faculty members from engineering institutions in Tamil Nadu, India. The authors concluded that the IEQMS have significant relationship with performance of the EEIs.
