Abstract

The paper presents a biogeography-based optimisation (BBO), particle swarm optimisation (PSO) and proposed hybrid biogeography-based optimisation-particle swarm optimisation (BBO-PSO) for optimising proportional integral (PI) controller parameters for the level control of bottom two tanks in a modified quadruple tank process (MQTP). The simulation results are presented to prove the effectiveness of the proposed hybrid algorithm for minimising the objective function. The hybrid BBO-PSO has significant performance improvements in servo, regulatory and robustness responses.
