Abstract

The current economic crisis has engendered an unprecedented amount of soul searching in academia. Old ways are just not working. Worse: these old habits helped precipitate the crisis. History and classical literature are coming to the fore as sources of new inspiration. We intend that the Accounting Classics series of the International Journal of Critical Accounting be in the forefront in the effort to rejuvenate intellectual thinking – in accounting and beyond. A selection from Abraham Briloff's Unaccountable Accounting was the first salvo in this series; Stanley Aronowitz's Class in Political and Social Philosophy is the second edition. The quality – and relevance – of Stanley's piece, speaks for itself.
