Abstract

Software startup companies are meant to deliver software products or services in a short time, while operating with minimum resources. This research work makes an attempt to evaluate the efficiency of software projects undertaken by these software startup companies, using data envelopment analysis (DEA), and explores the impact of software customisation over the efficiency of their projects. Dataset of ten software projects, from four different software startup companies, has been used for DEA analysis. From this analysis, it is observed that four of the ten software projects are the most efficient. We have also mapped the degree of customisation with the estimated efficiency of these software projects, and found that the software customisation has considerable influence over the efficiency of the software projects undertaken by software startup companies. This research work has specific implications for software startups.
