Abstract

Organisational learning could be a way to locate some of the best practices of a firm. An organisation is a repository of wide range of experiences, human capital, technology and knowledge that guides its behaviour. With an aim to identify the organisational learning factors driving growth and innovation in Indian IT industry, it revisits the rich and diverse literature on organisational learning spread over the last six decades. It proposes modelling organisational learning in software firms by assimilating key ideas and approaches discussed in its literature. The paper opted for a cross-sectional study by developing and administering a survey instrument on employees representing middle and senior management levels in selected software companies across India. An exploratory factor analysis resulted in six key factors to present organisational learning in software firms. The study aims to identify a set of constructs capable of explaining organisational learning in software firms in Indian IT industry. It suggests focusing on learning infrastructure and result oriented learning as the key planes to harness organisational learning in software firms.
