The relationship between organisational ambidexterity and organisational performance: the mediating role of innovation

Abstract

The impetus of this study is to examine the mediating role of innovation on the relationship between organisational ambidexterity and organisational performance in Jordanian pharmaceutical organisations. The data was collected using questionnaires that were distributed to the managerial levels employees of 14 Jordanian pharmaceutical organisations. The findings reveal that organisational ambidexterity is significantly related to innovation and organisational performance. As well as, there is a significant effect of innovation on organisational performance. Furthermore, the findings confirm that innovation mediate the relationship between organisational ambidexterity and organisational performance. This study is limited in terms of small sample size and solo industry. One clear implication is the need for managers to become more conscious of the necessity to allocate resources between ambidexterity capabilities. They also need to employ their organisations ambidexterity capabilities in favour of innovativeness with the purpose to enhance the organisational performance. This is the first study examining the role of innovation on the relationship between organisational ambidexterity and organisational.
