Partizipation an beruflicher Weiterbildung : empirische Ergebnisse auf Basis des Sozio-Ökonomischen Panels (Participation in further vocational training * empirical findings on the basis of the socio-economic panel)

"Further vocational training is ascribed an important role in safeguarding the individual's income and employment prospects. It has been known for some time from empirical research on further training, however, that the chances of training are unequally distributed. In addition to the low-skilled, especially older people and foreigners are also considered to be at a disadvantage. Following an extensive description of the latest research developments, this paper examines the participation in further training of different groups of the population on the basis of the data of the socio-economic panel, wave 2000, which had not been evaluated concerning this issue until now. In addition to bivariate findings, the results of multivariate analyses are also presented, which permit more precise insights into the strength and interaction of individual determinants than purely descriptive accounts. It can be seen from this among other things that participation in further vocational training varies according to school and vocational qualifications as well as occupational status. Furthermore, the type of employment relationship, nationality and age are also connected with participation in further training. Finally, possible points of departure for removing barriers to further training are shown." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
