Die Türkei Im Vorhof Der Europäischen Union

Abstract

Der Betritt der Türkei in die EU, am Anfang des dritten Jahrtausends, ist eines der dornigsten Probleme in der Geschichte der Europäischen Gemeinschaft. Der bevorstehende Beitritt dieses fast rein muselmanischen Landes in die EU hat die meisten Europäer in Verwirrung versetzt. Trotzdem unterstützen alle Regierungen der EU, die USA und die multinationalen Konzerne fast ohne Vorbehalte den Beitritt. Im Gegensatz, die Mehrheit der europäischen Völker steht der Kandidatur der Türkei nicht freundlich gegenüber. Demoskopien in der EU zeigen, dass ein Referendum für den Beitritt der Türkei in jedem Mitgliedsstaat negativ sein würde. Außerdem scheint bei den beiden in 2005 gescheiterten Referenden in Frankreich und den Niederlanden bezüglich der Europäischen Verfassung unter anderen auch der ins Auge gefasste Beitritt der Türkei in die EU eine nicht zu unterschätzende Rolle gespielt zu haben. So gesehen ist das Beitrittsproblem ambivalent, einerseits machen sich die Befürworter als eine kleine Minderheit für den Beitritt stark, während anderseits die Völker Europas ihn ablehnen. Im Folgenden soll versucht werden, diese Gegensätze genau aufzuzeigen.
