Ibn Khaldun and the Neoliberal Model

Abstract

The neoliberal Model has been adopted by a large number of countries in the world. Over the last twenty years this model has been promoted by the United States of America and many United Nations agencies, and recommended to many countries in the Third World as the optimal Model for development and transformation towards economic and political liberty. This paper aims at demonstrating that this model is not new and was developed by the great Arab historian Ibn Khaldun in his Muqaddimah published in 1372. He also explains some of the significant shortcomings of this model.
