Abstract

This work presents a methodological proposal for the construction of a 20-year historical series for the unemployment rate in Minas Gerais. A retropolation of employed and unemployed in the state up to 2002 is proposed, using Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios Contínua (PNAD Contínua), the Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios (PNAD), the data from the Pesquisa Mensal de Emprego (PME) and from Pesquisa de Emprego e Desemprego (PED) and state accounts. The results reveal that the procedure allowed the reconstruction of the historical series, with similar unemployment rates between 2002 and 2011, a average difference of only 1%.
