Abstract

case study of a French construction siie shows that systems of authority and payment are responsible for the production of accidents. The classical literature in industrial sociology is examined in the light of accident research and the case study. These reflections lead to a sociological theorizationof accident produciion. The vast majority of industrial accidents are seen as being produced by social relations at three leoels in the firm: organization, command and rewards.
