Farmers? Rights , tutela della biodiversit? e salvaguardia delle risorse genetiche: l?esperienza del Canada

Abstract

I Farmers? Rights sono stati introdotti dal Trattato internazionale sulle risorse genetiche vegetali per l?alimentazione e l?agricoltura nel 2001 quale riconoscimento del contributo che gli agricoltori e le comunit? rurali hanno dato nella creazione, conservazione, scambio e valorizzazione delle risorse genetiche. Essi sono dei diritti collettivi che appaiono antitetici ai quelli di natura individuale rappresentati dai diritti di propriet? intellettuale che hanno determinato, da parte delle multinazionali farmaceutiche e del seme, la sottrazione dell?uso di dette risorse alle comunit? rurali. Nell?attuale fase storica ? importante l?affermazione dei "diritti degli agricoltori" sulle risorse genetiche ai fini sia della sicurezza alimentare che della preservazione dell?ambiente e della biodiversit?; contribuiscono, altres?, alla prevenzione del cambiamento climatico e al mantenimento delle conoscenze tradizionali e locali.
