Note: [English Title] A History of Ottoman Economic Thought: Developments Before the Nineteenth Century [English Abstract] Deniz T. Kılınçoğlu from Middle East Technical University, METU (Northern Cyprus Campus) reviews "A History of Ottoman Economic Thought: Developments Before the Nineteenth Century" (Routledge, 2013) by Fatih Ermis. After a brief critical introduction to the scholarly literature on Ottoman economic thought, this review assesses Ermis’s book regarding its main questions, conceptual framework, primary sources and the approach to sources, organization, and the writing style of the author. The review aims at presenting a balanced critique, as it emphasizes the book’s major shortcomings as well as its potential contribution to the scholarly discussions, particularly in English, on the subject matter.
