Note: [English Title] Global Crisis and Financing of Cultural Policies: A General Evaluation on the case of EU and on Turkey [English Abstract] While studies regarding the privatization of theaters in Turkey are in progress in related ministries, the subject is discussed both in artistic and in political platforms. But the economic analysis of the debate is not discussed sufficiently. The purpose of this article is to examine administrative and financing methods of the cultural industries in the EU and in Turkey during the last global crisis and also in this context to analyze a debate on the privatization of theaters in Turkey. In the article cultural policies are analyzed in theoretical and empirical area. Accordingly, in each country the preferred sphere of culture and its administrative and financing stucture are determined by that country’s cultural policy. According to the main findings of the article, during the crisis cultural policies and public resources allocated to culture in the European Union and Turkey are affected not only by countries’ economic conditions but also by their political preferences in particular.
