Note: [English Title] AN EXAMINATION OF EFFICIENCY AND PRODUCTIVITY IN THE ECONOMIC ACTIVITY BRANCHES OF TURKEY WITH PRODUCTION FUNCTIONS (2004 – 2006) [English Abstract] Increases in productivity in the economic activity branches are indicators of whether production factors are used in a rationale sense and are important in terms of improvement and growth performances. The productivity of industrial structure is examined in terms of production scale, technology and capital density. If there are defect stemming from a variety of reasons and with structural characteristics, this will be reflected in the production structure of the economic activity concerned. In this study, balance sheet shored fiscal activity limits were examined with the help of Cobb/Douglas production function created for 10 different economic branches for the 2004 - 2006 period owing to the practical benefits it provides and the characteristics of Neoclassical economic theory it has. In the study, for each financial term for the “Q” economic activity branches net profit/loss values, the total labour force a year in “L” sector and total assets/liabilities of “K” economic activity braches were taken into account. In order to calculate efficiency score that used Battese and Coelli (1992) stochastic frontier analysis. For the terms related to 10 different economic activity branches, an increase has been observed in the efficiency scores. The highest rise was realized in mining and quarry field in 2004 - 2005 periods. Among the 10 different economic activities, it has been observed that compared to the periods of 2002 - 2004, the production factors within the 2004 -2006 periods were used more rationally and more development and growth performance were shown. Although in the periods 2002 - 2004 there is substitution characteristics between capital and labour factors, there is not substitution characteristics for the periods of 2004 - 2006. It was found that while there is diminishing return according to the scale between the 2002 - 2004 periods; there is increasing return for the 2004 - 2006 periods.
