Note: [English Title] Alcohol Consumption and the Effect of Sociodemographic Variables on Alcohol Consumption [English Abstract] Alcohol consumption and relevant problems have increased significantly in the recent years. In Turkey also evident increases in alcohol consumption have been observed. The data has been obtained from 2003 household survey conducted by State Statistics Institute. The data are based on the household leader, and whether the socio-demographic variables are influential in alcohol consumption is observed. In the study, alcohol expendition is considered as categorical dependent variable and other factors effective on this variable are estimated and interpreted through econometrics models. According to results, the age of household head, the education status of household head, household head’s type of residence, whether s/he smokes or not, occupational status of household head, hosehold head’s monthly income, work status of the employer and whether s/he has healthy insurance are identified as the main factors affecting alcohol consumption.
