Simulation of Elliptical Curve Cryptography in IPSec on Ad-Hoc Networks

Abstract

As the proliferation of mobile and IoT devices and wireless networks significantly increased, Mobile Ad-hoc networks (MANET) have now become one of the most promising fields of communication and networks. In this paper, we applied the Ad hoc On Demand Multipath Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol to ensure the data safety and integrity during transmission in a MANET. AODV is a more secure routing protocol than its single-path ancestor, despite it is still vulnerable to some attack types. The main goal is to maintain packet security in a hostile environment when several adversaries are actively attacking. In order to achieve the target goal, we applied the Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) to protect packets from a black hole attack. Compared to other forms of public-key encryption, ECC offers security while using significantly smaller key sizes. Using the discrete event network simulator NS-2, we set up three distinct experimental environments and we compared how the agent performed in each of them respectively: a safe environment free of malicious activity; an aggressive environment filled with black hole attackers and an environment in which ECC had been implemented. Finally, we experimented results of NS-2 simulator and we compared them to RSA and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) in terms of QoS, Average Processing time, and Average end-to-end delay standard metrics.
