Especialización y crecimiento manufacturero en dos regiones del Estado de México: un análisis comparativo

Abstract

Este trabajo se analiza el papel de la especialización productiva para explicar los diferentes ritmos de crecimiento de la manufactura en dos regiones del Estado de México (Valle de México y Toluca-Lerma), durante el periodo 1970-2008. El nivel tecnológico y el dinamismo productivo de las actividades en que se especializan esas regiones, identificados mediante el cálculo de los índices de especialización absoluta y relativa y el uso de la técnica shift-share, respectivamente, se define con base en la clasificación propuesta por Pavitt(1984). Los resultados sugieren que el mayor ritmo de crecimiento de Toluca-Lerma se podría explicar, en parte, por su mayor grado de especialización y por el más alto nivel tecnológico de sus sectores más dinámicos; algo contrario ocurre en la región Valle de México.
