Infructuoso prestigio: actuales obsesiones y temores de los turismólogos

Abstract

Mientras los eruditos del turismo han luchado durante décadas para establecer al turismo como una disciplina seria, no menos cierto es que han recibido una crítica exhaustiva por parte de los epistemólogos de otras disciplinas. El hecho sugiere que el imaginario social tilda al turismo de una actividad naive, y superficial que en razón de tal, queda sujeta a un proceso de alienación que le precede. Paradójicamente, los padres fundadores de la sociología del turismo han abrazado la creencia en que el avance de la globalización y la organización de la práctica turística encierran un carácter negativo para los lazos sociales. En esta revisión conceptual, repasamos críticamente el legado de la tradición francesa revelando no solo otras alternativas epistémicas para el turismo sino discutimos la necesidad de vencer a los paradigmas económico-céntricos vigentes en la disciplina.
