Abstract

Em função do incremento da indústria do turismo, resolvemos desenvolver este artigo, com o objetivo de analisar/avaliar a importância do turismo no desenvolvimento local. No Estado da Bahia, na região da Chapada Diamantina (Figura 1), especificamente área de nosso particular interesse, o turismo vem se destacando como propulsor do desenvolvimento local, graças principalmente ao incentivo do governo estadual, objetivando tirar a região da estagnação econômica que aconteceu com o fim do “ciclo da mineração”. A partir da década de 1970, o governo do Estado decidiu investir no aproveitamento destas potencialidades através da articulação das políticas estaduais que caracteriza, grosso modo, o contexto das políticas publicas e a dinâmica do turismo no Brasil e na América Latina.
