Cambio de actividad económica y degradación ambiental. Un estudio histórico de los problemas ecológicos de la Ciénega de Chapala, Michoacán

Abstract

La Ciénega de Chapala ha sido durante siglos un ecosistema equilibrado que fue benévolo para el asentamiento de distintos pueblos mesoamericanos. Con la llegada de los españoles, el paisaje se modificó principalmente por la introducción de especies invasoras como lo eran los caballos, las vacas, o los cerdos, pero también de granos como el trigo así como en un manejo de propiedad privada de las tierras. Durante la colonia la actividad productiva se modificó radicalmente. Se impuso la hacienda y los grandes latifundios como forma organizacional de la región y la actividad principal se modificó a la producción de granos distintos al maíz y a la ganadería. Como resultado de la desecación a principios del siglo XX surgió un área muy fértil para la agricultura y ganadería que tuvieron un gran impacto en el equilibrio ecológico de la región.
