Representación social de la vejez en adultos mayores desde el análisis cultural

Abstract

El artículo es derivado de tesis de Maestría en Desarrollo Cultural Comunitario, resulta del Proyecto de Investigación del Centro de Estudios Sociales y Caribeños (CESCA), insertada en la variable: vulnerabilidad social ante la dinámica del proceso salud enfermedad. El artículo aborda la vejez como problema social desde el análisis cultural al relacionar la interacción social y los significados asignados en la representación social. El objetivo es explicar el valor metodológico de la teoría de la representación social para el estudio de la vejez desde un análisis cultural. Los resultados obtenidos permiten considerar que en la representación social de la vejez construida por los adultos mayores influye la interacción social de estos en las instituciones comunitarias, de ahí el Círculo de Abuelos en el que se efectúa el estudio facilita la interacción social de las personas mayores en la comunidad y potencia la significación asignada a la misma para su salud.
