Efectos de la expulsión de los jesuitas en 1767 para sus propiedades en la región cubana de Vuelta Abajo

Abstract

El presente artículo aborda los efectos del proceso de expulsión de las colonias españolas de la Compañía de Jesús en 1767, en las propiedades rurales que poseía en la región cubana de Vuelta Abajo, considerando que la expulsión de esta Orden de Isla, trajo consigo la enajenación de estas haciendas. Para su confección se realiza un análisis de cómo la mayoría de estas propiedades en Vuelta Abajo fueron confiscadas por el Estado y vendidas a oligarquía criolla. Esto significó la pérdida de una de sus más importantes propiedades agrarias y por consiguiente una de sus principales entradas financieras, marcando el principio del fin del poder económico del clero regular en Cuba, sostén de toda su estructura ideológica, política y social.
