A religião do absoluto no romantismo brasileiro: uma experiência de comparativismo crítico

Abstract

Neste trabalho, objetiva-se determinar a relevância da noção de “religião do absoluto†, desenvolvida por Alain Vaillant (2012), para o estudo do romantismo brasileiro enquanto fenômeno literário. Para tanto, comparamos aspectos desse conceito com conhecimentos produzidos por Antonio Candido (2002) acerca da poesia religiosa e sobre sua importância na estética romântica brasileira. Procedeu-se uma observação dos dados históricos apresentados pelo estudioso brasileiro, bem como uma análise do poema Ode à existência de Deus, do escritor romântico brasileiro Sousa Caldas (1836), através da ótica de Vaillant. Assim, verificamos que a noção de religião do absoluto pode representar um viés significativo para a compreensão do romantismo brasileiro.
