Los regidores perpetuos del cabildo de San Isidoro de Holguín (1752 - 1812)

Abstract

En este trabajo se aborda un aspecto poco estudiado de la historia institucional de la Cuba colonial: la venalidad o patrimonialización oficial de los cargos públicos, es decir, su conversión en propiedad o patrimonio particular, tomando como caso de estudio concreto las regidurías del Cabildo de la ciudad de San Isidoro de Holguín, desde su creación en 1752 hasta el inicio del primer período constitucional en 1812. Se analiza la evolución de la composición del Cabildo holguinero durante ese período, teniendo en cuenta las formas de transmisión de los cargos perpetuos: herencia, compraventa entre particulares o subasta pública, los precios pagados y la movilidad social de las familias representadas. El estudio está basado en la consulta de fuentes documentales, pertenecientes fundamentalmente a los Fondos Protocolos Notariales y Tenencia de Gobierno del Archivo Histórico Provincial de Holguín, así como de la bibliografía disponible sobre el tema.
