Beneficios del uso de herramientas open source de base de datos para almacenamiento de informacion en entidades públicas

Abstract

Con el pasar del tiempo nos damos cuenta que la marcada distancia tecnológica que había con referencia a otros países se acorta y en el Ecuador no es la excepción, desde la llegada del software a nuestro país se notó la hegemonía de un fabricante, actualmente con el libre acceso a la información nos hemos podido ir identificando con las herramientas Open Source, en el año 2008 la presidencia de la republica expidió un decreto ejecutivo que dispone el uso de software libre a entidades públicas en todas sus actividades no es obligatorio ya que existen excepciones aunque la Ley Orgánica de Empresas Públicas obliga a tales empresas a usar software libre pero hace falta más información, difusión y medición de una verdadera política pública de soberanía tecnológica. Para el almacenamiento y manejo de la información actualmente las entidades públicas han optado por software comercial implementando un formato que se consideró oportuno para satisfacer las necesidades de ciertas áreas, con el uso de software libre se busca brindar una alternativa que nos permita centralizar el almacenamiento de los datos para que puedan ser usados por diferentes áreas esto sin afectar el bolsillo de los contribuyentes
