Abstract

Las necesidades actuales del desarrollo exigen de las universidades una mayor participación en el mismo a nivel local, regional y nacional, lo que también se corresponde con los principios de responsabilidad social y pertinencia de las instituciones educativas. En este contexto es que el presente artículo analiza cómo la Universidad Estatal de Bolívar influye en el desarrollo de su territorio. La vinculación con la sociedad de la Universidad está enfocada en la construcción de soluciones para los problemas socioeconómicos en las áreas prioritarias que demanda el entorno y en la ejecución de planes y proyectos participativos para el desarrollo local. Especial énfasis se ha realizado en el desarrollo de carreras que responden a los intereses del territorio, el impulso a las industrias locales y el aprovechamiento sustentable de los recursos naturales con que cuenta la Provincia Bolívar. No obstante aún existen grandes potencialidades por explotar en la misión extensionista de la Universidad Estatal de Bolívar.
