Discapacidad y desarrollo humano en México: el servicio social universitario como estrategia de mejora

Abstract

Aunque existen mediciones como el Índice de Desarrollo Humano que permiten analizar el desarrollo y conocer el desempeño de sus componentes; pocas veces se ha reconocido que hay aspectos sociales como la discapacidad que por no ser punto focal de la política pública, se traducen en avances más lentos en rubros como la esperanza de vida, la educación y crecimiento económico. Con base en esta consideración, se pretende primeramente exponer un marco referencial sobre la discapacidad y el desarrollo humano; en segundo lugar –con base en el análisis de datos oficiales- ofrecer un breve panorama estadístico de la discapacidad en México con especial detalle en el desempeño educativo y económico de las personas en esta condición; y finalmente, esbozar algunas reflexiones y consideraciones sobre el papel que puede jugar el Servicio Social como un elemento articulador de un objetivo tan trascendental como lo es el desarrollo humano.
