Representaciones Sociales De La Vejez En Amã‰Rica Latina Y El Caribe

Abstract

El artículo reflexiona sobre las representaciones sociales de la vejez que poseen jóvenes y adultos mayores de América Latina y el Caribe. Se utiliza para el análisis una revisión del estado del arte sobre el tema. Se recurrió a una búsqueda sistematizada de artículos con validación científica en bases de datos de revistas indexadas reconocidas en ciencias sociales. Los criterios de inclusión fueron estudios donde se indentificaran las representaciones sociales de la vejez que poseen jóvenes y adultos mayores en países como Chile, Colombia, Brasil, México y Cuba. Los pricipales resultados destacan que las representaciones sociales sobre la vejez en estos grupos etarios están marcadas por aspectos físicos, psicológicos y sociales. Se concluye con la idea de que predominan las representaciones sociales negativas sobre esta etapa de la vida tanto en jóvenes como en adultos mayores, resaltando que en la vejez se pierden los atributos positivos de la vida.
