Abstract

El presente trabajo realiza un análisis de la situación que presenta la educación en la sociedad holguinera de las décadas del 30 y el 40 del siglo pasado. Manifiesta como las desigualdades sociales existentes en la localidad se declaran en la educación y la cultura. Cómo la educación era usada para los intereses electorales de los políticos de turnos que se sucedían en el poder. La situación educacional era tal que hizo que el historiador holguinero García Castañeda catalogara a la ciudad “como pobre aldea†, a pesar de la cantidad de escuelas creadas por el gobierno de Batista en el periodo 1940 al 44, que lejos de resolver la situación de la educación, se convierte en parte de su campaña demagógica.
