Abstract

La evaluación de la conservación de los manglares de la comunidad Santa Cruz del Sur, constituye conocimiento básico que permitirá reducir la vulnerabilidad de estos ecosistemas. Los manglares constituyen reservorios de biodiversidad, son la base fundamental de las comunidades costeras y protegen a sus habitantes de huracanes y tormentas tropicales. El objetivo del presente trabajo es evaluar el estado de conservación de los manglares de la comunidad de Santa Cruz del Sur. El área se dividió en tres sectores. En cada sector se hicieron recorridos de campo y se establecieron parcelas de 10 x 10 m. Se realizó una caracterización del manglar en estructura y composición. La evaluación de la conservación se realizó aplicando la metodología de Fernández (1994) modificado por Matos (2006) que tiene en cuenta el grado de representatividad de especies autóctonas, estratos originales de la vegetación, cobertura vegetal y grado de modificación. El sector 3 tiene buen estado de conservación, mientras que los sectores 1 y 2 están medianamente conservados.
